Soaking nuts, seeds and grains

Yes, organic foods typically cost more than their conventional counterparts. Much of the higher cost is due to the smaller scale of production given the lower demand and also to the fact that it is a more labour-intensive process.
Arguably, the more people begin to make this choice, the greater the economies of scale that should arise as more farmers are encouraged to assume these farming practices, which would ultimately result in more organic options at better prices. That said, recent research suggests that choosing organic food can lead to increased intake of nutritionally desirable antioxidants and reduced exposure to toxic heavy metals. So even if they look less than perfect (courtesy of the absence of waxes and preservatives), at least you’ll know that they are free of irradiation and genetic modification, and truly fresh as organic foods tend to be seasonal.

When you feel hungry, it is your body saying, ‘give me minerals so that I can activate enzymes and make this body function as it should’. It is virtually impossible to over-eat mineral-rich foods. If you’re eating mineral-deficient foods you will still feel hungry and have the tendency to over-eat. This is not because your body is looking for more of the same mineral-less foods, but because it hasn’t found the minerals it was looking for in the first place.

What is most tragic, however, is that when wheat or any other grain is refined, the outer layers of the grain are removed – along with most of the nutritive elements that are so essential to the maintenance of life.
