Preperation Methods

Juicing

Cold pressed juice protects and preserves the nutrients of the fruits and vegetables. Since the cold press juicer presses the produce to extract the juice, no heat is involved. You get 100% of the vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and nutrients when you drink cold pressed juice.

Because no heat or oxygen is used in the cold-pressing process, nutrients are not lost as thy typically are when heated during pasteurization.

Soaking nuts, seeds and grains

Nuts, seeds and legumes store phosphorus as phytic acid in the outer or bran layer, as well as enzyme inhibitors to prevent them from sprouting when conditions are not suitable. This is Nature’s brilliant way of preserving genetic plant material until it has a viable chance of producing a plant. For humans, though, phytic acid is often considered an anti-nutrient because it binds minerals in the digestive tract, making them less available to our bodies. Phytic acid not only grabs onto or chelates important minerals, but also inhibits enzymes that we need to digest our food.

In the Low Carb paradigm, loads of nuts and seeds, so we’re presented with something of a challenge then in terms of their phytic acid content. Soaking, fermenting and sprouting all replicate germination, convincing the seeds that it’s time to begin their growth processes. Germination, which activates and multiplies nutrients, neutralises enzyme inhibitors, and promotes the growth of vital digestive enzymes including phytase, which neutralises the phytic acid.

Healthier options

Homemade food

When cooking homemade meals, you know exactly what you are eating and you know that there aren’t any hidden surprises. Free from food additives, preservatives, emulsifiers, stabilizers, flavour enhancers and colourants.

Eat Organic

One of the most profound ways of improving your health is to change to organic food. The word ‘organic’ refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are designed to encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution and therefore go beyond human concerns to address the broader environment we exist in. And while the jury is out as to whether organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs are significantly different in their nutrients content, it’s what’s not in the organically grown food and what’s missing from the conventionally produced stuff that is worth considering, as well as the bigger picture of the effects our industrialised farming practices have on the earth, the growing need to support small local businesses and the impact on the other species we share this blue dot with.

Conventional, commercial agriculture has massively depleted most soils of beneficial minerals as herbicides like glyphosate act as chelators, effectively blocking the uptake and utilisation of minerals. These sprays are furthermore composed of powerful chemicals like organophosphorus, which can leave a residue on produce and which has been connected to a number of developmental problems, including autism and ADHD. It stands to reason that not having pesticides, chemicals or processed additives bogging down your system means a smaller risk of disease, illness and disorders. Yes, organic foods typically cost more than their conventional counterparts. Much of the higher cost is due to the smaller scale of production given the lower demand and also to the fact that it is a more labour-intensive process.

Arguably, the more people begin to make this choice, the greater the economies of scale that should arise as more farmers are encouraged to assume these farming practices, which would ultimately result in more organic options at better prices. That said, recent research suggests that choosing organic food can lead to increased intake of nutritionally desirable antioxidants and reduced exposure to toxic heavy metals. So even if they look less than perfect (courtesy of the absence of waxes and preservatives), at least you’ll know that they are free of irradiation and genetic modification, and truly fresh as organic foods tend to be seasonal.

Best quality ingredients

We are using the best quality raw ingredients that is organic, fresh and real. The most important things to think about are good, basic food of the best quality and nutrition available with no harmful substance to the human body.

Micronutrients

The standard Western diet contains far too many macronutrients and not nearly enough micronutrients. Large-scale commercial farming depletes the soil of minerals and life, and the processing and refining of foods reduces the micronutrients content even further. Hunger is the body’s search for minerals. Eating loads of macronutrient-rich foods that are deficient in micronutrients does not satiate hunger. Eating lighter, micronutrient-dense foods quickly satisfies the appetite. 95% of our body’s activities are dependent on minerals, not vitamins. Each cell contains over 4000 enzymes. Those enzymes are only ever fully activated when the major minerals and trace minerals are present in significant quantities.

When you feel hungry, it is your body saying, ‘give me minerals so that I can activate enzymes and make this body function as it should’. It is not your body saying ‘please stuff in whatever junk you can find so I can spend the rest of the day struggling to digest and eliminate it’. It is virtually impossible to over-eat mineral-rich foods. If you’re eating mineral-deficient foods you will still feel hungry and have the tendency to over-eat. This is not because your body is looking for more of the same mineral-less foods, but because it hasn’t found the minerals it was looking for in the first place.

Low carbs

Choosing low carb food your blood sugar levels will remain constant and will not put strain on your insulin system. Staying satisfied for a longer period of time will prevent cravings. A low carb diet can also help to drastically reduce health problems such as gastric problems, heartburn, skin problems, acne, depression, sleep disorders, mood swings, joint pains, lifeless hair, migraines, irregular blood sugar curves, diabetes, eating disorders, fibromyalgia, PMS, obesity, asthma and sugar addiction.

No refined, processed food

Refined foods make up of a Western diet, with white flour, white sugar, white rice, processed oil and margarine. No wonder that our immune systems can no longer counteract infection. Refine food is good for the food business but it is also good for the vitamin business. No wonder people need to turn to nutritional supplements. Health consuming people realised and accepted that life simply cannot be sustained on a diet that is high in fat, high in sodium, high in sugar, high in preservatives, highly acid-forming, highly refined, and low in all of the vital nutrients that are so essential to the functioning of the living organism. When will man ever learn that we cannot take apart what Elohim saw fit to put together – without causing suffering? When will ‘so-called science’ ever concede that there is no alternative to the superlative plan of Nature?

The grain of wheat shows many elements of this life- and energy giver but most of the nutritive elements, as well as the bran and the fibre are situated in the outer layers of the grain. What is most tragic, however, is that when wheat or any other grain is refined, the outer layers of the grain are removed – along with most of the nutritive elements that are so essential to the maintenance of life. This leaves a refined end-product that is, at best, hopelessly deficient in nutritional value and sadly lacking in essential fibre. In the refining process, the germ of the wheat is also removed.

Milk and Honey health alternative is unbleached, GMO-free, stone ground flour, made with sourdough. The real natural way. This grinding process ensures a particularly natural and healthy end product. During the grinding process the fine, top-quality flour is continually abstracted. It is a much slower and more natural process that generates relatively little heat. Therefore, bread retains all the healthy wheat germ, fibre, natural oils, vitamins and enzymes, making it rich in fibre, wholesome and nutritious.

Gluten

When you mix flour made from gluten-containing grains with water, gluten is what makes the mixture sticky. It’s what helps bread dough stretch and allows it to rise when you bake it. That doesn’t sound so terrible, so why is gluten getting so much attention? Did you know that a scientific review listed 55 diseases that can be caused by eating gluten? Gluten causes trouble by making the body inflamed, resulting in effects all throughout the body. This means gluten can affect the brain just as well as it can affect your joints or digestive tract.

The modern diet lifestyle kills off beneficial gut bacteria and causes harmful bacteria to thrive. More and more research is coming out naming gluten as one of the major culprits here. It disrupts the barrier of the intestine, which allows harmful substances to leak through into the bloodstream. Even if you don’t have gluten intolerance, gluten can still cause negative effects. Wheat itself has changed dramatically over the past few decades. Today’s wheat contains more gluten and fewer vitamins and minerals than the grains our ancestors ate, which explains why the percentage of people with gluten intolerance is increasing so quickly.

Going gluten-free is one of the most popular trends in health…. And it didn’t take long for food companies to notice. Many have changed their strategies to meet the demand. They’re creating new gluten-free versions of processed foods and emphasizing existing products which happen to be gluten-free.

Milk and Honey making a big difference in this matter. See our product range.

Sugar

Sugar has been likened to cocaine – it’s addictive and toxic. Sugar links to the rise in obesity, which in turn is linked to high rates of type II diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. Food items in grocery stores, 80% have been spiked with added sugar and the industry uses 56 other names for sugar on the label. They know when they add sugar, you buy more. And because you do not know you’re buying it, you buy even more. Dealing with the complicated world of nutrition you need to not only consider the physiological impacts of your decisions, but also the psychological factors.

Any form of total deprivation tends to have the opposite of the desired effect and teaching children moderation from an early age is probably one of the best tools you, as a parent can equip them with. The real problem with the increasing sugar consumption that we are seeing is not from the occasional treat, it stems from the fact that drinking sugary beverages and eating sugary foods is becoming the norm.

I have observed how children react to sugar, how they “turbo energise” and how sugar affects them in a negative way. Concentration ability decreases due to bad food choices. Consuming more sugar than the body can tolerate will result in too much sugar in the bloodstream. Initially it feels like a boost of energy, but shortly afterwards the blood sugar levels decrease, along with the ability to concentrate. This leads to the need to eat again to gain more energy, which will quickly diminish again and will leave you feeling tired and listless. Natural food with high nutritional value is the basis of our children’s health.

Soy

People often believe soy products are a healthier option, but the health risks associated with soy are significant – worth looking at if you’re considering adding it to your diet. People eat soy to get ‘Vegetable protein’ – but what they don’t realise is that the phytates in soy impede absorption of protein, deprive them of B12 and impede absorption of four key minerals: calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

Animals are fattened on corn and soy all over the world. Also, soy has a metabolic oestrogenic effect in the body, Excess oestrogen in men is a known cause for gynecomastia, prostate enlargement and cancer. In women, oestrogen dominance is a known cause for PMS, breast cancer and other female disorders. All soy products contribute to an excess of oestrogen in the body. Thyroid damage, immune system collapse, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities, depression, anxiety and other mental health issues is at stake.

Tragically, babies are often placed on soy as an alternative to milk, and the allergies and digestive issues that follow are often not linked to the feed. In 2005, Israel’s health ministry recommended that soy products be limited in young children and, if possible, avoided altogether in infants. Soy damages people in a variety of ways, and it is certainly best to avoid it.

Food additives

Additives are added to preserve food. Many additives are chemically produced and can be modified and manipulated to produce the result that the manufacturer requires.

Most convenience foods are packed with food additives. MSG is used to enhance the flavour and can cause allergic or sensitive reactions. It has also been linked to neurological problems, type II diabetes and obesity. The best option is to avoid these.

Microwave

Cooking your food using microwave will degrade and deplete the nutrients inside. Molecules in food will be degraded and deformed due to the radiation from the microwave. It will, in turn, create harmful radioactive compounds. Microwaves may be faster and more convenient than the convection oven, but the nutritional value of your food and the health of your family will pay the price for its convenience.

Packaging - 100% Bio-degradable

We want to turn the tide on plastic and create a more sustainable and healthy planet where beaches are clean and a safer wildlife. By using glass, cardboard, brown paper bags, paper straws, biofilm bags (look like plastic, made of trees and plants) and bio-degradable food packaging that breaks down (biodegrade) into its natural components of water, CO2 and plant matter.

Skincare

The fastest way to accumulate toxins is through the skin, and to discover that nearly everything we have been eating, drinking, breathing and putting on our skin has been laced with toxic ingredients that is dangerous to humans. Skincare products are a ticking time bomb for health issues and we’re just now starting to see some of the negative health effects of putting toxin chemicals on our skin every single day.

Some of the worst offenders in these products include aluminium, fluoride, parabens, synthetic colours, petroleum, fragrance, sodium lauryl sulphate and the list goes on. Oxybenzone posed the biggest threat with one percent to nine percent skin penetration and being detected in nearly in every user of skincare products and even found in breast milk. It has been shown to be and endocrine disruptor and to cause relatively high rates of skin allergies and have widespread use in sunscreens. Replace them with cleaner and safer personal care products.

Milk and Honey designed a skincare range for babies and children to create more healthy, organic skin care line for safe, yet highly effective skin care using nourishing plant extracts and essential oils to save your skin and feed it with essential nutrients.
